Alex Miller
Circus artist
My name is Alex Miller, and I am a Montreal-based circus artist specializing in aerial straps.
I began my journey with aerial straps at the age of 29, after seeing an aerial performance at a circus festival. Captivated by the art form, I immediately knew it was something I wanted to pursue. As a partly self-taught artist, I spent my first year working with a coach, and since then, I’ve continued to develop my technique independently.
Currently, I am focused on further developing my aerial straps technique and exploring new artistic expressions. This ongoing process is deeply influenced by my perspective as a queer, gender non-conforming woman, which fuels my passion for creating art that reflects the complexities of identity and the human experience.
I believe that performing arts hold transformative power, and I aim to use my work as a way to inspire, challenge perceptions, and create space for reflection and connection. My long-term vision is to delve deeper into LGBTQ+ narratives, using art to amplify these stories and invite viewers to reflect on their own identities and experiences. Though my work is still taking shape, I am committed to creating performances that inspire others to embrace their true selves and live authentically.
